Fishing and crabbing are a part of Newport's history, and in fact Newport is the Dungeness crab capital of the world. 

 

Charter boats out of Yaquina Bay are common for Albacore, Halibut, Chinook, Coho, bottom Fish or fish from shore at the jetties for Ling Cod and Rockfish.  Don't fish? Oregon State Marine Biology program meets guests at Dock 5 to learn how to buy fish from the fishermen at their boats on Summer Saturdays. 

 

Crabbing for Dungeness is fantastic in Newport, whether from the public fishing dock or renting a boat. 

Rent boats at the Newport Marina or Embarcedero.  Rent crab rings to use at the docks from South Beach Market. 

 

Clamming can be great on many tidal beaches, and if you don't know how head down to Waldport to meet a ranger under the bridge on the weekends.  Rent clamming gear at South Beach Market.

 

Oregon Oyster farms is another great place to visit and buy a sack to grill/shuck.

 

And in the end, you can always swing by the South Beach Market in case you don't have great luck.  As always, check the regulations, reports and make sure you have the correct license.
